About MK Tax and Accounting

Kathy Baker is the team leader and owner of MK Tax & Accounting. She has over 20 years of accounting experience and brings a special warmth and concern to her clients and to the staff.

Kathy founded Baker Bookkeeping Services in Marietta, Georgia in 1982. She moved to Tucson in 1985 with her family and began working with Laventhol and Horwath. She was instrumental in implementing a new PC-based accounting system to prepare tax returns. Kathy has assisted CPAs in Southern Arizona with bookkeeping, tax return preparation, software installation and training, and conflict resolution with federal and state authorities.

Kathy has three children, three grandchildren, and is married to Steve Baker, a Chiropractic orthopedist.

Julia Baker is our office manager and is also in charge of special projects. She works well in crisis mode and is always striving to ensure the office is running smoothly. She is a bookkeeper, manager, organizer, tax preparer and computer whiz.

When not taking care of our office, Julia spends her free time coaching volleyball for local high school and club teams. She enjoys the flexibility of the accounting profession as it allows her to modify her time to continue to coach. She also loves spending time with her family especially her two nephews and niece.

Angie Brady has been with us since 2004 starting as a receptionist while working on her accounting degree at Pima Community College. She now provides full charge bookkeeping services, including payroll and accounts payable processing.

Her husband Aaron and daughter Riley keep her busy as well as the menagerie of animals that live with them.

Karen Brown has 18 years or experience as a Controller for both Marriott Hotels and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. She has been married to her husband Steve for 11 years and they have a 10 year old son, Jason.

Karen enjoys working out, reading and watching her son play sports. She is an avid baseball fan and would drop anything to go to a Yankees game!

Marie Smith started working for us in January 2007. Marie loves working with people and her 25 years experience as a travel agent has made her a professional people person! Her organization skills and attention to detail keep the office running smoothly.

Marie was born and raised in Canada and moved to United States with her first husband. She is the proud mom of one daughter and 3 grandkids and was recently blessed with the addition of two stepsons and six more grandkids when she married her husband Bob. Her hobbies include traveling, especially to see all those grandkids, sewing and photography.
